I'm So Proud of My New Team Member

I was thrilled to discover that California Home and Design Magazine chose Anne Fougeron as the recipient of their Award for Residential Architecture, in the category of more than 3000 sq.ft. In February, John Rahaim, San Francisco Planning Director, took a walk in the City with John King, Chronicle Urban Design Writer, to point out architectural examples that others might follow. He chose 1532 Cole Street designed by Anne in 2005 as one of the city's best buildings. I have long admired Anne's modern designs and I was thrilled when she accepted the invitation to be a team member of Live Modern in Marin.

This year Live Modern in Marin will host an evening event where Anne tells us about her interest "in how we transform buildings over time – how we convert them to new use." I have also had the opportunity to view The Grasshopper, the warehouse she converted in SOMA. At street level are Anne's offices and a garage. The residential loft owned by a family with two young children occupies the two levels above. Privacy within a glass structure in the middle of the City is difficult to imagine but it exists at the Grasshopper. Light comes in from everywhere. Urban stylish SOMA living is enhanced by the open floor plan and the use of glass allowing contact with the environment. A visit through the loft reminded me of Mies van der Rohe's motto "less is more".
