Swatt Miers - Architecture
I have been very fortunate to represent several owners in the sale of their Swatt-designed homes. I could be proud of the listings, knowing that it was an “authentic” modern house.
The first one in Kentfield was on the market in 2003; at a time when modern was still not a common sight in Marin. People confused modern and contemporary; they were surprised by what they were seeing, not understanding. Buyers from San Francisco became the proud owners of the Kentfield house. The second one, a smaller Sausalito property came at a time when modern was accepted, there were several offers. One of the ‘losers” commissioned Swatt Architects to design their home. The third listing in 2009 was in San Anselmo; each Sunday open house drew a crowd of curious who wanted to see a “Swatt House” as they used to say. There were architects, modern architecture lovers and people in the process of remodeling; times had changed!
Each one was different in size, on a very different site, but they all had one thing in common stemming from the architects’ vision: “…we strive to create architecture that, both physically and visually, celebrates the beauty of the natural landscape by blurring the boundary between inside and outside.”
Live Modern In Marin is proud to present an evening with Robert Swatt doing a presentation on the work of the firm new book “Inside Out - Connecting Architecture with Landscape”
